MIDLAND,
Va. –
Smith-Midland Corporation announces its involvement in four Sound
Wall/Noise abatement projects in 2008. The projects, located
in Maryland and Virginia, have a total project value of $7.5 million.
Smith-Midland
will provide 216,000 square feet of absorptive noise wall to the I-95 Telegraph
Road Interchange project to insulate nearby residential areas from highway
noise, a contract worth approximately $2.3 million. This is part of an ongoing
improvement of the roads around the Springfield interchange (the mixing bowl.)
In Richmond, Virginia, Smith-Midland will provide 15,000 square feet of screen
wall that will serve as a visual barrier for surrounding communities
encasing the Richmond New Bus Operations and Maintenance Facility.
The project is valued at $615,000 including installation. Smith-Midland announces
its increased involvement in the major Maryland Transportation Authority project
at the I-95/I-695 interchange near Baltimore.
Smith-Midland will provide 336,000
square feet of Sound Wall along the new express toll lanes,
to be known as "hot
lanes," used to cut
off highway noise from nearby residential areas, a contract valued
at nearly $4 million. The concrete panels will feature a vertical ribbed finish
on the highway side, with a stamped finish on the residential side. The project
will include 1,690 precast concrete panels and 577 concrete posts.
The five-and-a half-inch-thick panels will be stacked on top of each other,
sliding into a groove on the concrete posts, to create a wall that is up to
30 feet tall and is almost two miles long. Smith-Midland Corp. has produced
highway barrier for Cherry Hill Construction for use in this and previous projects.
And, in Montgomery County, Smith-Midland is installing 30,000 square feet of
precast concrete sound wall with a rustic ashlar finish to shield
highway noise from nearby residential areas along Shady Grove
Road in Rockville, Maryland, a contract worth approximately $550,000.
