MIDLAND,
Va. –
Smith-Midland Corporation,
the manufacturer of the SlenderWall architectural
precast concrete panel system, announces its involvement in the
construction of Northridge at Westfield Office Park, awarded
the 2007 National Association of Industrial and Office Properties
(NAIOP) Award of Merit for the Best Speculative Building R & D
for Phase I of the project. NAIOP
awards recognize significant new contributions to Northern Virginia
by the commercial and industrial real estate community at a black-tie
gala held in November 2007.
Smith-Midland was
chosen to fabricate and install traditional architectural precast
concrete panels as well as the SlenderWall panels
for the construction for the three Northridge at Westfield
office buildings located in Fairfax, Virginia. The Northridge contract
was worth over $1.7 million.
The Northridge project involved three separate
office buildings, each one level high bay flex office and industrial
buildings. Finished in late 2007, the project used 386 SlenderWall panels
with “Second
Nature™” architectural precast
concrete brick finish totaling 66,296 square feet. The buildings
were also designed with knock-out panels so the owner could
change the building’s configuration in the back of the building.
The knock-outs could be removed providing flexibility for the
potential tenants to customize the space to their needs such as openings
for garage doors or additional office storefront windows.
Smith-Midland was
honored to be a part of the construction team along with owner,
Duke Realty Corporation; architect, Architecture Incorporated;
and general contractor, Trinity Group Construction.
SlenderWall combines
time-proven components to create a permanent, light weight
wall system for both new construction and recladding projects.
Architectural precast concrete, insulated Nelson anchors
and heavy-gauge stainless or galvanized steel studs create
a single, efficient exterior wall system with unlimited design
freedom. Due to the exclusive Lift-and-Release panel
landing system of SlenderWall ,
installation time and costs can be reduced by 50%.
Architectural
