MIDLAND, Va. – Chris Kemp of Madison has joined Smith-Midland Corporation as Director of Continuous Improvement. Chris will be leading the company into the world of "lean" manufacturing - a term used to define streamlining - by focusing on process improvement and standardization. His efforts will drive improvements in safety, quality, delivery and cost within the company.

Chris understands the complex nature of the precast concrete industry and will be working to improve all aspects of the business through the elimination of "waste". "Waste" can be defined as anything that prohibits the completion of work in the most time efficient and cost effective way. He brings multiple years of manufacturing experience to Smith-Midland including working as a safety coordinator and a production manager. Through projects and focused improvement groups, Chris' goal is to work with associates to make things work better.

Chris holds a bachelor's degree in Political Science from Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kansas. He was in the United States Marine Corps for eight years including serving as a Marine Officer who flew helicopters. In his spare time he coaches soccer and roller hockey in Madison. He lives in Madison with his beautiful wife Jackie. He has four children and three grandchildren.
